I have no clue whatsoever what 90% of the stuff in my inventory is. The amount of bullshit currencies are staggering. That ends the positive part of this check in. I've also managed to pull 2B, A2, and 9S by exclusively devoting all the jewels you earn by playing to that banner (now I'm pulling for the FFXIV one because why not?)
SINOALICE NIER REPLICANT BANNER SERIES
I like how her look, VA, and animations are almost off-puttingly cute, but her role is so obviously more than it seems, we're just waiting for a series of increasingly more upsetting shoes to drop. I like the aesthetics of the game (Reincarnation) quite a bit, and Mama seems primed to be a VERY Nier character indeed. It's already rare enough to have that kind of story, and the Nier remake wants to make it even more rare.

I imagine the father version is the stronger story, though. I haven't played it yet, and I'm not sure when I will, since I'm not in any real hurry. I don't feel like the world design, atmosphere, or story is nearly as compelling as Nier's, though.ĭoes the remake of the original maintain the atmosphere well, in your opinion? At least so far nearing the end of the first route, so maybe I'll come to feel differently during the second.Īutomata is what you get when you polish Nier's gameplay to a fine sheen, for better or for worse. It frustrates me because this game feels like it was a few choices away from being a masterpiece but instead ends up being. If you want this game to be an actual game where you can win or lose, rather than an interactive movie, you have to restrict yourself from using items, at least in fights. Nier Automata gives you billions of powerful healing items that you can use at no cost whenever you want. Kingdom Hearts, FF7 Remake, Bloodborne, traditional turn based JRPGs all manage to incorporate healing items without breaking the game (typically by making them cost time to use, sometimes in addition to other limitations). It's always weird to me when a game can't figure this one out. If you do somehow get hit and it doesn't 1 shot you, it actually doesn't matter, because you can just use.Ĥ. But you're kind of encouraged to spam it to survive on anything above normal. This has got to be the most broken dodge mechanic I've ever encountered in a game. What the hell were they thinking with this game's dodge? It's, like, all iframes with no need to pause in between.

Since you die hilariously easily, you are forced to use.ģ.

Just an odd and sorta extreme way to design a hard mode. This is a huge jump from normal, and can be pretty frustrating, but isn't necessarily game ruining in and of itself. Everything basically 2 shots you, occasionally 1 shotting you, at least for most of your first path through the game. Very Hard sounds masochistic and awful, so switch to.Ģ.

There's a series of design flaws which could easily have been corrected but combine to severely worsen the experience.ġ. But I find the game to be almost broken and find myself wondering if anyone actually playtested it or what. Its aesthetic is right up my alley, shmup + RPG is basically like speedballing for me, and the plot seems cool.
