It would be great if a moderator from Google would give some advice as this seems to be a new issue and there is no information out there on how to sort it. Contacting Microsoft is no help because, as far as they are concerned, everything is working on their end and they just suggest using the outlook app.
You'll need to contact Microsoft to very the exact settings to use and find out what, if anything, changed. Now I can't add it back because once again when I get to the outgoing smtp authentication, it fails. I didn't play with these settings in any way. I'm thinking it has to be something on the Gmail side. This has worked fine for years with no issue. My login credentials work just fine from a PC, so I know that isn't the issue. (See attached snapshot for error message.) Perhaps that will give you more details as to why it can't connect. I'd suggest removing the account from Outlook and setting it up again.
